I used to re-use vending machine cups for planting seeds, until I thought about using newspaper pots.  I looked at buying a Paper Pot Maker but then thought, surely there's a way to create the pots without a "maker".  I found this step by step guide to making paper boxes:

They are strong and are a great alternative to plastic pots (and better for the environment).  Just don't over water (sometimes I use a water spray instead of a watering can).  I have also made some smaller pots by cutting the paper down to 25cm x 40cm, this way you use less soil.

This is a great idea. I have been making pots out of newspaper but these are especially nice.
